Remnants of Quartz Crushing Battery, Sandstone Reef, Llanelly, 2014
The Black Horse and Sandstone Company had a very substantial 20-head crushing battery situated near their main Victoria shaft. The battery consisted of four cast iron mortar boxes, each containing five stamp heads weighing over 500 kilograms each.
The four mortar boxes were mounted on very substantial red gum blocks. Three of the four mounting blocks survive and can be seen in the photograph.
