McKenzie Shaft, Jim Crow Reef, 2015
This shaft was commenced by the North Poverty Company in the 1860s, and re-opened and deepened to 280 feet by the Tarnagulla Consols Company in 1898. This company also constructed a long, high tram line across the deep gully to connect the mine to the company's stamp battery on Growler's Hill.
The shaft was rehabilited abd re-used by a number of small parties over succeeding years, the latest being in the 1970s.
