Yorkshire Mine, c.1907
This photo was taken c.1907, towards the end of the mine's life. The image is orientated south to north, looking across the engine room to the 54 feet high poppet head at the rear. The winder is located just inside and to the left of the door, with the compressor and air receiver to the right. Hard left is the boiler house and blacksmith's shop, and hard right is the high trolley line leading to the huge mulloch heap which once dominated the site. Immediately behind the poppet head but unseen in this photo is a big, modern 20-head stamp battery which was relocated to the Catherine Reef United mine at Eaglehawk not long after this photograph was taken.
