It is believed this mine was dubbed 'Irvine's Reef' and James William Burrows of Llanelly and later of Newbridge was contract carrier.

For the sake of historical clarity, this mine was only ever known as the South Gippsland. The Irvine's Reef mine is almost 1 kilometer away and was entirely a separate operation.
