Criterion Store, c1905

This store was located on the corner of Welsh Street and Commercial Road, Tarnagulla. The building was originally constructed c1862 by Rees Williams, and operated by the Williams family for many years as a family grocer, produce dealer, ironmonger, etc. By the time of this photograph, the business had been sold to Thomas Cunningham, whose name appears over the parapet headboard. Cunningham in turn sold it to S. Anderson in 1910, and J. Whimpey and Sons took it over in 1913.The old store finally closed in 1917.
